Friday's party
Aug. 1st, 2023 10:00 pmI went to a party on Friday. It was supposed to be a whisky thing, but it ended up being a regular party.
I talked with a guy who was supposed to be at our big party but couldn't make it. He wasn't able to squeeze us in between two other events, one of which was a wedding. I said that I liked having lots of people at our parties because that makes it more fun. People are more likely to find other people that they enjoy talking with. This guy said that at the wedding, his wife only knew the bride, so there was pretty much no social interaction with anyone. I found that odd because he's really outgoing, but also it kinda rang true. I can't think of many weddings where I interacted with a lot of people that I didn't already know. Why is that? Is there something about wedding receptions that puts a damper on social interaction?
I spoke with a woman who used to work where I work. She thought I looked familiar, and figured it out after a lot of questions. I never really worked with her, so even after telling me her name, I only vaguely remembered her from ten years ago. I ended up talking with her for quite a while. Her husband worked in the opposite direction from home, and happened to work with another former coworker of mine.
An acquaintance was there who had suffered a health crisis. He's in his late forties, and at Christmas, he passed out, and was in a coma for a while, then in rehab. He's finally back working full time but says he still has moments of haziness. He says he hardly remembers anything from the two or three months before the incident. And they still don't know what caused it.
They were predicting storms for the day, so we figured we'd be indoors, but they held off until after 8pm, so we were on the deck for a while. So then there were storms, and later there were tornado warnings. We headed to the basement.
