flood, day 5
Oct. 6th, 2019 11:01 pmEarly in the day I dealt with the artwork some more, taking a couple more pieces apart, salvaging the frames. And tossing the trash. In the afternoon I mowed the lawn.
In the evening, I spent about 2-1/2 hours attending to the LP's. Some are trashed. Some were undamaged, but most got wet along the bottom inch or so. A few got stuck together and tore when I tried to separate them. Most will just be wrinkled. A few were protected by plastic, but most of the ones that were in plastic had to have the plastic removed so they could dry out. Jethro Tull and Led Zeppelin were dry, but King Crimson was damp, so I'm not sure what's up with that (alphabetical storage). Peter Gabriel was hard hit. Disappointing because we had a couple of 12" singles. And my Violent Femmes EP from 2015 was pretty messed up.
I think in all cases, the vinyl will be fine. It's just the sleeves that are damaged. I'll have to go through them all. I should still upgrade many to CD or digital. The ones I count as losses are either the ones where they are rare on vinyl, or the ones that are good enough to listen to on LP, but not good enough to buy again in a more modern format.
