my art teacher
Oct. 22nd, 2018 09:58 pmWe paid a visit to my old high school art teacher last weekend. The area had an art weekend, studio tours and such. I saw her name on the list and decided to stop in and see her. I must have run into her at some point after high school because she remembered some things about me, but I don't recall that, and don't actually remember talking with her since 1985. I walked up to her and said "hi!" I paused half a beat and introduced myself. She said she kinda recognized me, like maybe if I'd given her another second or two she would have said my name.
So we talked with her for a while. Mostly about her art, since were were there in her studio space in the mill. She uses natural materials to print on cloth. Mostly leaves on silk scarves. She wraps them up together and steams them. Very nice work. She talked about her retirement and how she got into the artists space. I caught her up on my job and our photography, things like that. She tried to get us to join the local artists guild.
The old mill in town is called The Arts Mill. The second floor is divided into little spaces that artists rent for studio/gallery space. She was the one on duty for the weekend, so that was fortunate. It was fun to see her. I generally liked my teachers. The nice ones, at least.
