It's late May, and I need to get the vegetable garden ready. I turned the compost last week, and didn't get back out there. Today I got back to it. First I saw that the asparagus was sprouting, and cleared the weeds from around it. I picked enough to have for supper. Then I dug up a little bit of the garden. A bit less than a quarter (he said, optimistically). Then it's supposed to rain tomorrow and Monday. I'm taking Wednesday and Thursday afternoons off to work on it some more.

My lawn tractor wouldn't start last fall. So of course I waited until the grass was growing again before I called someone to fix it. They said they wouldn't be able to get to it for a week and a half. They said last Tuesday. Wednesday night I thought I should call and see if they could give me a better ETA. I forgot all day Thursday. I called Friday morning. The woman went to check, and came back sounding vaguely apologetic and equally vague about things getting lost in the shuffle. And offered to come and pick it up the next day (today). They did. I assumed that if they got it they'd take care of it, and it wouldn't take all day, but I didn't get it back. That means Monday, at best. Rain is in the forecast Monday, and I have plans for Tuesday night, so best case scenario, I take off work Tuesday afternoon to mow it. If I'd known I had to wait so long for it, I should have asked my neighbor to borrow his again, and done it this afternoon.
