day jacket
May. 21st, 2017 10:08 pmWe went to the President's Dinner on Friday. It's for our St. Andrew's Society, my Scottish club. And at many of these events, we have an auction to raise funds for the Society, since we're essentially a charitable organization. One of the members brought several jackets which no longer fit him. I tried this one on before the auction and it fit well. I was pretty sure nobody would bid against me. But as the item went up for bidding, another guy tried it on and then bid for it. He dropped out, leaving my bid of $50, which is what I would have started at, had nobody else bid first. I ended up paying $60, because when I went to pay, the guy didn't have change yet. But I would have kept bidding to well over $100, since it's such a nice jacket.

This jacket is 100% wool, hand-tailored in Scotland. My dad has a similar one, which cost him over $300. It's basically a suit jacket for when you wear a kilt. Jackets that are worn with kilts are always short (except when the formal Prince Charlie coats have tails), apparently to show off the pleats in back.
