Friday in Chicago
Oct. 31st, 2016 11:49 pmI had tickets to see Marillion at The Vic in Chicago, that I'd gotten a couple of months ago. We decided to do a little photography, so we took the day off. We started at the Chicago Botanical Gardens, then went to Bohemian National Cemetery, then went downtown to the area of the show.
As it turned out, the day of the concert was the day of the World Series game, since The Cubs made it to the World Series for the first time since WWII. And since Wrigley Field is only a few blocks away from The Vic it was... interesting. Crowded. Expensive. Parking cost at least double normal. First time around the block I missed where the parking garage was, and it took me fifteen minutes to make it around again.
So we walked down Clark looking for a place to eat, but there were none. I knew there were many restaurants up on Belmont, but that street was the major thoroughfare to the game, so we went over closer to the theater, where there were a couple of restaurants. DMK had too long a wait for burgers, so we went across the street to Bread Cafe, which was nice. Quiet. Then, since we had a lot of time to kill, we walked up to Wrigley field, to check out the crowds and say we were there.
Then we walked back down to DMK for a drink, then up to the theater for the show. Interesting concert. Marillion has a small but dedicated following. As I'm not very familiar with them, all of the music was new to me... sort of. The only thing I have against them is that it all sounds the same. So I could say that none of the music was new to me. Quite good, though.
And then we got home around 1:00.
