This afternoon we went to the funeral of my stepmother's mother. Betty had surgery recently, but then decided she didn't want to hang around anymore. She could no longer swallow, and didn't want a feeding tube. She had been in a hospice room next door to Jeff's room.
When we got home, Jeff's obituary had been published. His funeral is on Thursday.

This weekend, I was chatting with an acquaintance who, well, is getting to that point in life, where one loses one's friends. She said she'd lost six friends in the last month.
And someone else I know has just been diagnosed with cancer.
