My friend with cancer... In January, they gave him three to six months to live. A year if he was lucky. As I mentioned, the weekend before last, there was a fundraiser for him. He was there shooting pool, and seemed like he was in pretty good shape. During the week, he got bad news. On Saturday, he posted the following to Facebook:
Saturday Jeff posted the following on Facebook.
Hello to all my FB friends, family, coworkers, etc. Please feel free to share with any others that may not be using social media. I promised to post results and next steps after the CT scan on Tuesday and visit with the Oncologist on Wednesday. Since the news wasn't good we made sure our immediate families were notified first before posting to FB.
First, the Dr. advised that the chemotherapy used in the clinical trial was not working and the cancer has spread including some new tumors so I've been pulled from the study. The cancer is starting to close the bile ducts around the liver which is giving me that nice yellow color making me look more like Homer Simpson every day.
So, we were offered two options: 1) Discontinue treatment altogether and let it ride. We asked the Dr. how long I may have and he said due to the aggressive nature it could be weeks or months. 2) Since I am stubborn or just a glutton for punishment we are trying some other chemotherapy options. I received a transfusion of oxaliplatin yesterday which is only one of three drugs they want to use, but the other two are rough on my currently dysfunctional liver so they can't administer these until my liver functions start to normalize (if they ever do). The platin they gave me yesterday was developed back in the 60's so you can only imagine the side effects coming with this one. Already experienced two of them and they are not fun.
I'm not giving in to this nasty cancer just yet, but things are not looking the greatest at the moment. Please continue to send the positive vibes and prayers as they are needed now more than ever. Rachel and I are simply taking things day by day and nothing for granted.
Best wishes and hugs to all of you as you all know I love each and everyone of you.

Please keep my brother Jeff in your hearts and prayers. He was admitted to The Kathy Hospice tonight. I am nowhere near ready to say good bye...
