Highland Games
Aug. 30th, 2014 10:48 pmI went to the games today. Took one of the Drammit guys along. The forecast called for a lot of rain, so I was a little worried, but it wasn't too bad. It was usually cloudy, not too warm or too chilly, and only rained occasionally. We had a bit of sprinkly rain early. Then some regular rain, which sent me to my car for my raincoat. The kilt got soaked. Then the sun came out, so I went back to the car, ditched the raincoat and got my camera. Then we got more of the sprinkly rain. Later, it rained *really* hard, but most everyone was indoors or under tents.
I threw axes in the morning. Didn't do very well. I don't think I stuck any. Not sure if I can blame my bad arm. Had some Scottish food. The beer tent now has whisky. Also had cider. And not enough water. Talked with the usual acquaintances. Didn't hang around the our clan tent. Watched the heavy games now and then.
You may remember this girl from a while back.

I didn't get to see her toss the caber, but I guess she's generally the winner around here, in the women's competitions. I saw her throw a hammer well over 100 feet, which was over 20 feet more than her nearest competitor.

I don't think he did well with this toss. It looks like a very low angle.

A thunderhead looms in the distance, while the winning band leads the massed bands "Amazing Grace."
