Have you noticed how the airlines are all padding their arrival times by about fifteen minutes? Almost everyone, in the last couple of years, says that they arrived a few minutes ahead of schedule. And for those of you whose flights are late? Your flights were really late!

I don't know how many times I've heard people saying their flights were a few minutes early. And I occasionally hear things like, "yeah, we left the gate half an hour late, but we were only fifteen minutes late arriving, so we still made our connection." The airlines used to be able to time their flights within two or three minutes, not counting the actual late departures. How can they all suddenly be consistently early?

It makes sense for them to do this. This way, when your flight is behind schedule, you still might be okay. And when it's on time, you think they're early, and you're happy about your flight. And you're happy when you make your connecting flight. Happy customers make return customers. Not only that, but they can claim more on-time flights.

And for those of you who fly Ryan Air? This apparently doesn't apply. ;-)

Music is recorded on paper by the composer, misinterpreted by the conductor, whose interpretation is poorly performed by the musicians, whose intentions are then completely missed by the audience.
