Did a Scotch whisky tasting tonight. The lineup was Glen Moray 12, Aberlour 12, Glenlivet 15 French Oak Reserve, Glenmorangie Port Wood, Bunnahabhain 12, Talisker 18, Lagavulin 16 and Ardbeg Uigedail. All excellent. And also tasted Isle of Jura 10, Talisker 10 and Auchentoshan 12. I did not partake of the Glenlivet Nardurra or Glenmorangie Lasanta.
My buzz is not wearing off.
Not all that excited by the Glen Moray, Bunna or Jura. Auchentoshan was surprisingly drinkable. Aberlour, Glenivet and Talisker 10 were good. Talisker 18 was very good. Laga and Oogie can't be beat. Happy to have traded my Nadurra away for Talisker 10.
Most of these guys were hashers so I expected a big party, but they were all very good at tasting. A couple of them were not familiar with Scotch, but they still knew what they were doing, as far as tasting, and had a lot to say about it. It was a very good group. And they brought good Scotch. Particularly the Talisker 18 and the Uigedail.
After we had gone through the initial tasting, and tried a couple of extras, Brook left. My dad was talking to Goose by the sink. I was talking with John and Mike at the table. Leon was in the living room with the female (non-Scotch drinker) who showed up partway through... We heard a clank and a thump. My dad was mid-sentence with Goose, when Goose passed out. Straight to the floor (my glass was not broken). Se we rushed over, checked him out and found him... questionable. Goose was fading back in, and Leon went across the street to fetch his wife. Meanwhile, he faded back out and we called 911. By the time they arrived, he was responding again. They checked him out and found no serious need. Goose and his wife said he didn't need transport to a hospital so they left. We cared for him a while, his wife left, and then my dad and I left. There were three guys left, and I'm assuming they left Goose on the kitchen floor.
That must have started about 10:30. We all stopped drinking about then, and I still have a good buzz.
