Wednesday: Flew from Milwaukee (elev. 700 ft.) to Las Vegas. Rented a Jeep Grand Cherokee and drove to St. George where I got groceries. Missed the turn-off to Zion, and ended up at the northwest corner of the park. Saw some views and did a hike. Kind of a bushwhack, following deer trails on the south Fork of Taylor Creek in the Kolob Canyon area (elev. 6000 ft.). Went back down and through the park, then over to Mt. Carmel Junction and checked into the Best Western.

Thursday, drove back over to Zion National Park. Hopped the shuttle, and rode up into the canyon. Saw a few sights, then hiked up to the Emerald Pools. Went back down, got some water, and went up to Scout Lookout, where I saw Angel's Landing. Climbed up to Angel's Landing (360° view). Came back down and killed my feet on the switchbacks. (4600 ft to 6800 ft in 2.2 miles).

Friday, my feet hurt, so I was moving kinda slow. Walked up to Weeping Rock. Then went to the top of the canyon and walked to the mouth of The Narrows. My feet were feeling a little better, so I went back to Weeping Rock trailhead, and went up to Hidden Canyon.

Saturday morning I realized my hiking shoes were rubbing my blisters, so I ditched them, and wore my regular shoes for the rest of the week. I drove up to Bryce Canyon. I walked down the switchbacks of Navajo Loop from Sunset Point, wandered around a dry creekbed as rain threatened, then down the valley a bit, and up to Sunrise Point. This was the Queen's Garden trail, going up the hill, and the rain got harder, and the wind got howlier. Nasty cold. The rain cleared up after a while, and I went to Bryce Point and Fairyland Point, where I walked down into the canyon a bit. I drove down to the Mossy Cave trail, where I walked around a bit. Then It was time to move on, so I drove to Escalante, where I spent the next three nights.

Sunday in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. I visited the Visitor's Center, and then drove down Hole-in-the-Rock Road to Dry Forks. I hiked down into a canyon, where I did Spooky Gulch and Peek-A-Boo slot canyons. I hiked down into another canyon. Came back out and saw Devil's Garden at sunset.

Monday. I was going to go down to Zebra Slot Canyon, when I had a flat tire. I changed it and went back to town to get the tire patched. It was of questionable reliability as a spare, so I had to stay on pavement. I went for a walk in the Escalante River canyon. I had a really nice dinner in that one-horse town.

Tuesday. I had wanted to see Kodachrome Basin and go down Cottonwood Canyon, but I had to go to Bryce area to have the tire replaced. I drove the long way around to the south side of GS-E. Went up Cottonwood Canyon to the Cockscomb. Hiked The Paria Box canyon. Went up to the Toadstools. Then back to Kanab and my motel.

Wednesday morning, I went to the contact station to get my permit for Coyote Buttes. After that, I went over to Page. I saw Lower Antelope Canyon, and got ushered out when it began to rain. Went down to the Glen Canyon Dam for a look around. Back up to Horseshoe Bend. Back to Antelope Canyon, for the remaining hour on my pass. Visited my great uncle and aunt. Drove to Jacob Lake, where it was snowing.

Thursday, drove up to South Coyote Buttes, and spent a couple of hours among the spectacular sandstone features. Drove back down to Jacob Lake, and on to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I drove through more snow, and it was freezing damn cold and windy. Saw the Lodge, and a couple of vista points. Drove up to Point Imperial and looked out. It was snowing pretty hard all the way off the Kaibab Plateau, and beyond that it was another hour's drive back to Kanab.

Friday, I went north to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, and saw some Native American pictographs. Then went back through Kanab, and back up the hill to the plateau, and down to the Grand Canyon. I drove all the way out the Walhalla Plateau to Cape Final, among other vista points. Then back to the Lodge. And back to Kanab.

Saturday, bright and earlyish, I went to Angel Canyon (?), just outside of town, and saw a little cave with a "lake". Also happened upon some Indian ruins - granaries and a pictograph. Drove to Vegas. With Cyn's phone support, I got directions to Hoover Dam and had a quick look around before returning my rental and flying back to Milwaukee.

Sunday, I mowed the lawn.

Don't ask me how many photos I took. My best guess is over 1500 different pictures. I have over 7000 files because I was being careful to get the shots I really wanted, so I often took multiples. And shooting dual formats on top of that.

And I put nearly 2000 miles on the Jeep. 1929 miles, to be exact.
