My mom, a few years ago, said she wanted to take Cindy and I on an Alaskan cruise. Recently she brought up the idea again, but said she didn't want to do a cruise. I looked around online, and decided we could do a train ride from Anchorage up to Denali. And then back down to Seward to take a day cruise to see the glacier. I stopped over tonight, and she brought up the idea, so we looked online to get some ideas, and it just didn't seem like it would work. So you get in to Anchorage, and what do you do? Then you ride the train up, and when you get there, what do you do? My mom's not up for hiking. How long do you stay, what do you see? Sign up for a bus tour, and then what?

So we gave up on the idea. She asked what other places we might want to see. I asked her if she wanted to go sightseeing in a city, or if she'd prefer outdoorsy kinds of things. She said California doesn't interest her, but she'd like to see the giant trees. She mentioned Prince Edward Island, as a place she's always wanted to see, but not like for this trip. She also mentioned New York City, but I kinda steered he away from it. It would be too much for her. I know that wherever we go, Cindy and I will have to slow down with her, and I think I can handle that, but I'm not sure how slow we can go in NYC. And getting around could be a hassle if we can't walk far.

Anyway, we decided on Washington DC. Still a lot of walking, but we can definitely move at a slower pace.

Now we have to figure out when to go (check the weather for the fall) and for how long. For once, I don't think we have to do a lot of planning on what to see. It's all right there, and we can just start.
