busy weekend
Sep. 22nd, 2010 11:52 pmFriday night, we went to the Paramount Blues Festival. It was a good time. First we saw a local-ish southern-rock band, October Soul. Then a new-ish hard rockin' blue band from Madison, Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo. Finishing up the night was a horn band, called The Jimmys. October Soul was not bad. Bluesy, country-y, rock-y. Female singer. The Hoodoo were great, except it seemed like their set was too short. I really enjoyed The Jimmys. The leader sang and played keyboards - piano, mostly, with some Hammond B3. In addition, there was bass, drums, guitar, harmonica, trumpet, alto sax and baritone sax. The guitarist and harmonicist also sang a few. With the horns, they reminded me of The Band, and late in the show, they indeed played "Ophelia". The only other song I recognized was a Sonny Landreth tune, but I suspect there were more covers.
Saturday, I went on a Photowalk with a group from Flickr. I enjoyed it, though there wasn't really much socializing or interaction with many of them. I only spoke with one guy. But was glad of the excuse to go shooting, and it is cool to see all the other images from the same walk.
From there, I went with Doug out to his brother's, to play Magic. It wasn't bad, I didn't lose all the games.
Sunday was the usual Shadowrun game.
Monday was the Roger Waters Concert in Chicago. Steve was having back trouble, and wasn't sure he was going to be able to go. His back was usually better, later in the day, so he went, and was glad of it. It was an amazing show. I had to rush out of work at 4:45, rush down to meet him, and rush down to the United Center. We made it with time to spare. I got home about 12:45, so it wasn't a bad trip home. I just wish I'd taken my camera. WTF didn't I take the camera?
I took Tuesday morning off work. There were a couple of late nights in there, and some late mornings, so I didn't want to be late for work, or be dead tired all afternoon. I had to leave work at 5:00 to make the play at The Rep, Cabaret. I wasn't all that impressed. It was The Rep's first musical, and only had two of their regular company. The singing wasn't all that great, save two of the cast. Everyone was singing, dancing and acting (with some playing instruments), so in that respect, they were pretty talented. I wasn't all that impressed with the plot. With all the cabaret numbers, that wasn't all that much room for plot.
Wednesday, I mowed the lawn after supper, then went back to work for a couple of hours. Amongst all this, I was trying to fix up my pictures, and get them uploaded to Flickr. Maybe tomorrow night, I'll get some up here.
