I went to the Milwaukee Highland games. It was kinda nice, but not really all that exciting. My dad had to man the St. Andrews Society booth for most of the time I was there, so I hung out with my stepmom who was very grateful I was there. It was nice to catch up on some news. The athletic events were just about over by the time I got there. We saw the "weight over the bar" contest, where guys tossed a 56 pound ball (with a handle) over a bar. I think they got up around 16 feet. There were some young girls doing dance competition. We watched a few pipe and drum bands compete on the field. They had some demonstrations regarding combat. Swords and the like. They also had a tent with a few birds of prey. Three owls and a hawk. And that was about it. Oh, there were some sheep herding demonstrations. Maybe it would have been more interesting if I'd gotten there earlier.

It was interesting watching the people. There the people in kilts, of course. Regular guys in regular clothes, but with kilt. Then there were the people in costume. Traditional Scottish garb, casual (peasant) to formal. Or renfaire garb. And the bikers. Some of those rough looking biker types belong to my dad's clan society. That's not surprising, since the Clan Little was one of the border clans. The Borderlands were a violent place.

But any time there's Scotch Whisky to be had, it's a good time. My dad had three flasks in his sporran, and he ran out. He had a very good time. He ran out so quickly because he kept running into people he knew. And speaking of whisky, he gave me a bottle of Highland park 12yr. for my birthday.
