I'm not going anywhere
Jun. 5th, 2007 12:13 pmWith the recent scandal, some people have talked about leaving LJ (or not), and some have actually left it. I'm not leaving any time soon. I don't think. What I'm a little more certain about is that if I do leave, I'm not setting up a journal anyplace else. I've got too much invested in this place. I might stop posting here someday, but I can't see starting over. And if I left, what about all my friends here? Maybe if they all went somewhere else, I might go, but that scenario doesn't sound very likely.
Another problem with leaving is that none of the other blogging sites are very good, it appears. I tried Vox and I didn't like it. The other LJ clones are not as advanced, technically. I think LJ is the best. Even with how the owners are diminishing it, it's still better than the others, IMO. Leaving in protest doesn't really do any good. Not unless a sizeable percentage leaves. Like a good forty percent. Part of LJ's problem is that it's so big. The bigger it gets, the more attention it draws, and the more other people's problems become our problems. It's entropy. Other sites aren't immune to the effect.
The only other option for a journal for me is setting one up on my own site. That could happen. And with the increasing connectivity of the web, I can still keep up with many of my friends through RSS, if they're on other blogging sites. So there is that.
