A gold pyramid
Apr. 29th, 2007 10:02 amEver since I was a teenager, I'd seen this pyramid and statue when driving down I94, just south of one of the toll gates. Yesterday, I decided I'd drive by and see what it was. I'd found it on Google Earth, but that didn't really give any clues.

Seeing it in person didn't really give me any clues either. The place seemed a bit run down. There was an abandoned "gift shop", some of the statuary was leaning, and I'm not sure what was up with the shack and stuff.
So after we got home I did a search. Found a little bit. Apparently, this was a rich guy who built all of this, and the pyramid is actually covered in real gold. And there are a lot of expensive furnishings as well. The three little pyramids in front of it are his garage. And the pile of gravel was because local officials tried to have the statue removed on the grounds that it was too tall. So Jim buried it up to its knees.
