Here’s a recap of my weekend
May. 9th, 2005 10:26 amThe duplex went on the market on wednesday, and showings were to start on saturday, so we were over there on thursday and friday nights cleaning it up. I didn’t get home until after 1:00 on saturday morning. The place looked pretty good.
Saturday afternoon, I went to Will’s seventh birthday party. It had a medieval theme, so I drew an eight foot tall dragon that the boys shot rubber band crossbows at. They also got to decorate plywood shields and cardboard armor, and we helped them make the crossbows and swords out of pvc and foam. There was a dragon pinata, and they got to launch a trebuchet.
There were four showings of the duplex on saturday, and one of the parties made an offer. Two others were interested, but had to wait until monday to check the financials with their banks. We made a counteroffer with minor changes.
My dad and stepmom came out for supper on saturday night. We had been meaning to have them over for a meal since we moved in, and now they’re going on a trip to Europe this week, so this was the time. It was a nice time.
Sunday morning was the first time that I didn’t really need to get going and get stuff done, like remodeling projects, so I didn’t really get busy until after 1:00. I did yard work in the afternoon. I watered the plants, and mowed the lawn. It was the first time I mowed the lawn at the new house, and the first time on the new tractor. I was a bit disappointed in the quality of the cut, and with the speed of the tractor. It took about an hour and a half.
My mom came over for supper on sunday evening. It was partly for mother’s day, and partly in thanks for her help in cleaning up the duplex.
This morning, the realtor called to tell me that our counteroffer was accepted. We’re happy because the price was only about $1000 less than our asking price. I’m relieved because my remodeling work paid off. Not as much profit as I had originally wanted to get, but still fair. Now I just have to have some roof work done, and finish up the kitchen (which is all dependent on my friend the cabinetmaker)and a bunch of other miscellaneous projects. It *should* all be done by the end of the month.
