wedding weekend
May. 1st, 2004 11:41 pmI will now give a rambling account of the wedding.
Several people asked me if I was nervous. I was not.
Ms Fledermaus spend much of the weekend here with us, as friend and witness. While cyn was out getting her hair done, Miz Eff and I went on an excursion for flowers, and then to the craft store for some funky ribbon, as only she can muster. Got Cyn a dozen roses. Never got her roses before, and they are very nice. Smell nice too.
Turns out my suit still fit. Barely. I bought back in '93, I think.
We made it to the courthouse very early. The ceremony was at 4:30, and we were there by ten to four. Most guest arrived between 4:00 and 4:15. The best man (characteristically) didn't arrive until 4:27. His wedding was at the same place, and he was the last to arrive for it too.
The Best Man was my friend Bill. We've known each other for over twenty five years. I've been his best man twice, so it was nice of him repay the favor.
The judge was Paul Malloy. He recognized me from the few times I'd been at the village board meetings (he used to be attorney for the village. At that time, he and my attorney were partners, so my attorney (who also knows Bill) showed up. I'm sure almost everyone in the room wondered what was up when I waved and said, "hi John!" just before the ceremony. Like, who the heck is that? The last time Miz Eff was here, she saw John selling cotton candy at the Christmas parade. Anyway...
I was very happy with the ceremony. Very warm, happy, lovey. But maybe that's just because I was in it - or the subject of it. I wish I'd gotten a copy of it. As payment, the judge asked that we make a dontation to one of three charities. I think we're choosing the Humane Society.
The only thing we forgot for the wedding was the memory card for the camera. Fortunately, I had my film camera along. And I stopped at home on the way to the restaurant. At some point I turned the flash off to make a particular picture. Many of the pictures for the rest of the night were taken without the flash and they were blurry. It's not eveident because the display is so small. There were some otherwise great pictures. I'll post some when I get them fixed up.
We had a good time at the restaurant. I was a little disappointed that the families didn't mingle much. Our two moms get along nicely (they came together), but beyond that, I didn't see much conversation. I was also a little disapointed in the service at the restaurant (though the food was good). Too bad we were locked into a 20% gratutity.
The hotel was nice. We had a suite with a hot tub and a fire place. And some coconut candles, courtesy of Miz Eff. That was a very relaxing evening.
So today, we took Ms Fledermaus to the bus station and hung out there for a while. Then came back here and hung out for a while. Cleaned the basement a little.
I really wanted to mow the lawn yesterday, because it was supposed to rain all weekend. It did rain, so I couldn't. Today wasn't so wet, but it was really cold. Tomorrow we work at Cyn's house. We'll either paint some rooms or spray texture on the kitchen walls. Monday night is scouts. Maybe tuesday I'll be able to mow.
Yesterday sure seemed like a saturday, with the wedding and everything. I've been having a lot of trouble convincing myself that today is not sunday.
