That was a long trip. Illinois is a really boring state.

Wednesday night was gaming night. Since I was meeting the guys at 6:30 AM then next morning, and it was near Cyn's house, and her house was near where were game, I stayed there that night. I still only got 3-1/2 hours of sleep. when I left in the morning, I was surprised to see how much traffic was out, until I realized it really was later than 3:30 in the morning.

I didn't sleep much on the way down. We got there at 1:30. We had lunch and then met our contact. He took us to the tire plant.

It is the largest tire plant in the world by volume of rubber used (there is a plant in Kentucky that puts out more individual tires). Their warehouse of finished tires was over ten acres of 25 foot high stacks. The guy said they turn it over every three days. I think it was 4.6 million pounds of rubber a day.

There were only two interesting parts of the ride down. There was ice on the trees around Champaign. I thought it was frost, even though it was 10:30 in the morning, until I saw some ice falling from some power lines. And I was surprised to see oil wells in Illinois.

It was a six hour drive. After the tour I took a half hour nap, and then we had dinner. I was not happy with the Lone Star Steak house. I got half a barbecued chicken which turned out to be a bit on the small side, dry, and not very hot. After that, and a margarita or two, I was just stuffed. With all that food in me, I didn't get to sleep until midnight. I just vegged in front of the TV for nearly four hours.

The drive back home today was rather boring until we hit Chicago (we went around it on the way down). We stopped off at the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. Not an enjoyable atmosphere. A big echoey room with a small number of very loud drunk people. We got back to work at 4:00. I checked my e-mail and came home.

Traveling often wipes me out, but this time I only got about eleven hours of sleep (not counting dozing in the car) in two days. I think I'm coming down with something.

I enjoyed the new movie. Derek, who went with me didn't like it as much. Still better than any of the odd numbered movies (IMO).
