After a two-day break, I was back at it. I went into the attic early on, before the heat got to be too much. I didn't do any actual work, I was just making a plan. Then I went to the hardware store and got some supplies. By the time I got back up there to do actual work, it was early afternoon, and veryvery hot. I didn't get everything done that I wanted to do before I had to come back down.
On Monday I got the drywall up on the ceiling on the north wall. My objective today was to do the same for the west wall. My first trip to the attic I determined that there was enough slack to sink one conduit into the studs.
The next conduit was trickier. I wanted to cut the conduit/wires in the attic, and replace it all down to the outlet with a longer cable, to give me some slack. But that outlet and part of the cable was behind existing drywall that I didn't want to mess with. So that plan had some risk. The other plan was just to cut the cable in the attic and add a couple of feet of wire in between, to give me the slack. In the end, I decided that even given the amount of work in the attic, that plan was not only less risky, but required less work.
Once cut (PITA), I was able to drill a hole through the top plate (top of the studs) of the wall, and feed the cable through it, rather than having to make a slot in the front face of the top plate. Tomorrow I go back up (before it gets too hot) and try to get the electrical extended and reconnected. There's a second outlet hanging loose - the conduit came straight through the drywall, and the box was screwed to the back of the cabinet. I need to route it inside the wall.
But I got that drywall installed. Including a 6" diameter hole I had to make for the exhaust duct.
Tomorrow, my intention is to drywall the ceiling on the east side of the room. There are four conduits that are sticking out from the corner, preventing me from drywalling there. As mentioned, I will finish hooking up the electrical that I started today (and turn the power back on so the fridge isn't plugged in via extension cord from the other room). Then I need to work on the ceiling fixture - it also has a conduit that needs to be extended. If I'm lucky, the remaining two conduits will have enough slack, and I can drywall.
