We've discovered that a six weeks ahead of time is too little time to find a good place to stay on Kauai. All the best places are gone, of course. You'd think they would have been gone formonths, but some are free just before or after we're going to be there. We started looking at cottages. Wanted someplace comfortable, clean and affordable and a kitchen(ette). Also one or more of: a great view, spacious, pretty interior, privacy, solitude. Looks like we may not get anything from the latter list without sacrificing affordability (affordability is relative already). But I know we can get soemplace for cheap. And like Cindy said, we go camping, so what do we need comfort for, as long as the place is cheap and close to where we want to be? Well actually, since we'll be there for a week, I'd really like some comfort.

Cindy was getting kind of upset at not finding any place. But I think a big part of that was the timing. We spent a couple of days on this already, chose a bunch of places, and now we had to spend another night on it. and it feels like time is running out.

Or do we give up something else for a little nice place? Like a boat tour or a helicopeter ride? Or just go for broke? Literally.

But like I said, I'm sure we'll get a place, and I'm sure it will be fine. I was hoping for perfect, but oh well. ;-)

You're going to a major tourist attraction. You'll be happier with a middle of the road hotel, or less and have fun with the getting out and doing things.

don't forget to make time to do absolutely nothing. That's what a vacation is for imo ;)

There's some bed and breakfasts on Kauai .. have you looked into those?

You'll need a car on Kauai .. you've planned for one, right?

Hmm.. Most hotel lobbies have a place to sit and watch tv.. even the cheaper ones, I would say don't give up on your plans for fun trips to have some down time, but that is just me.

A coffee shop, an open air restaurant.. taking a drive in the car, will any of those things do for down time for you, or do you need to have it in the place you are staying?

It is going to be a memorable trip, no matter how it pans out.
