tooth , part 1

The dentist shot me so full of novocaine (or whatever it is they use nowdays) that my ear and my eyelid are tingling. And the right side of my jaw - I was shot on the left. I'm getting a crown (I never knew I was royalty), so he had to grind away the entire surface of the tooth. Now I've got a temporary crown and have to go back in two weeks.

Well... there's a "cold" feeling, and I can "feel" vapors in my lungs that aren't normally there. Back a few years ago when I had to go in for gum scrapings and extra sets of X-rays, I was givin novacaine on at least 5 occasions. The first few times I didn't notice it, on the later ones it was more of a "nagging" feeling than obvious, and the last time there was no question. Have you ever "felt" alcohol vapors leaving your body through your breath? It's much like that. Except that last time it was pronounced enough it made me feel uncomfortable. I talked with the dentist about it, and he said "ya, it happens. We try not to use novacaine too much. We won't give it to you more than (so-many) times a year."

Wow, that's just.. wrong. And the feelign never goes away?

It does go away, but it takes longer for the vapor-feeling to go away than the numbness from the drug itself. And it seems to build-up too - like some component of the drug sticks-around in the system longer than the main active ingredient.

It's not surprising to me that it has that kind of action - it is an alkaloid compound, basicly "poison made by plants".

oops.. it's novocaine! Checked on-line to see if there was a good bit about the toxicity. It's derrived from cocaine HCL, one of the most famous alkaloids.

but yah, it goes away. The time I felt it the most obvious was after having novo about 5 times in 6 months, and that time I got the shivers from it (not horrible, but not fun either).
