tooth , part 1

The dentist shot me so full of novocaine (or whatever it is they use nowdays) that my ear and my eyelid are tingling. And the right side of my jaw - I was shot on the left. I'm getting a crown (I never knew I was royalty), so he had to grind away the entire surface of the tooth. Now I've got a temporary crown and have to go back in two weeks.

oof, i know the feeling. don't have soup or other leaky things,
you'll just get it all over yourself! ;)

the last time i had to have novacaine, after 5 or 6 shots of it,
and waiting between shots, it never took effect and we called it a day.
first time that's happened to me! i felt a little woozy, though-
i could *feel* the stuff go through my chest and straight to my knees!
the dentist stated that it probably wasn't the novocaine. whatever. *snort*

Uh-ohhhh
*looks at the sloppy chili bubbling on the stove*

*snort* aw, it's probably just me~
i always have at least a leetle spot on me
after eating when drugged!

My mouth was surprisingly functional afterwards.

When I was a teenager, my dentist found out that novocaine didn't work on me. But shortly thereafter, nobody was using the stuff. All sorts of variants. Synthetic stuff? I don't know.

It dissipated throughout your body? Weird.

Believe me. You're glad he shot you up that full with novocaine. Are you getting a porcelein crown, or all metal?
I've got a half and half one.

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. When he first looked in, he poked it with a pick, and it hurt. It hurts now, and I don't think it's just because of the needle.

Nice crown! I hope it's not temporary, like mine is.

[identity profile] shoo.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Is this your first crown? You lucky bastid...

I think I have 7 now...=(

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, first one. Buncha cavities, but that's it.

[identity profile] cynnerth.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Now do I have to refer to you as "Prince, Formerly Known As Freekee"?

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Um...

Yes!

[identity profile] sasquatch.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man. There isn't much worse than the dentist. My sympathies.

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, they don't bother me that much. More of a big annoyance than anything. I take it you've had trouble with them?

[identity profile] sasquatch.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Actually I haven't really had much trouble with the dentist. I think annoyance is a good word for it. I just don't like people digging around in my mouth, especially with needles or drills.

I got a crown on a molar in a similar scenario as yours. All four sides of a filled molar cracked.

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ouch!

[identity profile] rivendweller.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Your highness..... *bows low*

Word: be careful eating milk duds.

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
He heh. No kidding!

[identity profile] ravenfeather.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Now that you are royalty.. does that mean you are HIGH Delta?

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
I will be if I get any more novocaine.

[identity profile] ravenfeather.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
*LAUGHING*

[identity profile] marswalker.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Be sure to describe the sensations to the dentist next time. You can only have so much novacaine in one year before it starts causing problems.

I feel novacaine in my lungs now - had it so many times during middle- and high-school, that i can feel it when I exhale.

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
It seemed normal. A little more than usual, because he had to shoot me twice. Numb in the middle, tingly at the edges, and spreads over time.

What do your lungs feel like?

[identity profile] marswalker.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Well... there's a "cold" feeling, and I can "feel" vapors in my lungs that aren't normally there. Back a few years ago when I had to go in for gum scrapings and extra sets of X-rays, I was givin novacaine on at least 5 occasions. The first few times I didn't notice it, on the later ones it was more of a "nagging" feeling than obvious, and the last time there was no question. Have you ever "felt" alcohol vapors leaving your body through your breath? It's much like that. Except that last time it was pronounced enough it made me feel uncomfortable. I talked with the dentist about it, and he said "ya, it happens. We try not to use novacaine too much. We won't give it to you more than (so-many) times a year."

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's just.. wrong. And the feelign never goes away?

[identity profile] marswalker.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
It does go away, but it takes longer for the vapor-feeling to go away than the numbness from the drug itself. And it seems to build-up too - like some component of the drug sticks-around in the system longer than the main active ingredient.

It's not surprising to me that it has that kind of action - it is an alkaloid compound, basicly "poison made by plants".

oops.. it's novocaine! Checked on-line to see if there was a good bit about the toxicity. It's derrived from cocaine HCL, one of the most famous alkaloids.

but yah, it goes away. The time I felt it the most obvious was after having novo about 5 times in 6 months, and that time I got the shivers from it (not horrible, but not fun either).
