one of those days

I stayed in bed an extra hour this morning, and I had to run home to let the water guy in to get me off the temporary water supply (I'm glad of that, because it is below freezing again tonight). So I had to stay late at work, and was still short half an hour.

Being sick for a weekend tends to run things out of your head. One of the things I lost track of was that there was no scout meeting. I wish I'd remembered that before I got there. I would have stayed home and fixed a decent supper. So I came back home. Still didn't have any decent food, so I went grocery shopping and got some soup.

Another of the things I forgot was to remove some bx cable so the drywaller could get that last bit of "rock" up. So I got out the sawzall and cut it. sure enough - pop! It was live. The electrician said it was not, but if I'd stopped to think about it, I would have realized that it was live. Then I had to find the breaker and turn it off. Then cut the cable off. I couldn't just leave it like that, because my other task for the night was to reinstall the thermostat, so the furnace could run and help dry the joint compound (mud), and it's on the same circuit - the only live circuit. I didn't have time to open up the junction box and remove the wires, so I taped them up. Then turned the circuit back on and hooked up the thermostat. Wasn't real happy to see that both cold air returns were almost completely covered by drywall. I'm not sure if he knew that's what they were...

Then, arouind 10:30, I went to work on the toilet, which, by the way, is an Eljer. The big valve has been leaking, and now that I'm back on metered water, I really need to fix it. I don't know hw lnog it's been leaking - a couple of years, maybe? Could have been costing me over a hundred dollars a quarter. We're talking about gallons per hour, here. Anyway, I scraped a lot of scum from the seal, and it didn't help. It seems that the stopper is not aligned with the hole. I had to leave the water turned off to it. I guess that will be thursday's job. I also need to replace the supply valve.

And I discovered that when they replaced my water meter, a few weeks ago, they left it with a leaky joint. Fortunately, it's before the meter. Unfortunately, the water collects on my basement floor.

why i oughta

sweetie, i'm so sorry for the suckiness of the day~
i've never witnessed you quite this down before,
but it's to be expected with everything that's going on-
you're just so busy, and being sick on top of that
is no easy trick~

i hope you will be back in shape shortly-
do try to take good care of yourself, in spite of the odds~
*love*

Well, it's really not that bad. I wouldn't say that this LJer is totally in the crapper. But I am going to have trouble shaking this illness.

thanks :-)

What a yukky evening for you; and you didn't feel good besides. Dang.

I don't know if this helps, but..... I'm on your side. Sometimes it feels good to hear someone say that, so I say it to my friends or relatives when they're down & I can't find the right words.

Thanks.

I'm glad you weren't hurt cutting into the live wire!

Can the drywaller uncover the cold air returns for you?

Is the city going to fix the leaky joint? They should.

I'm sorry this is all sucking so much. :(

He'd better! I'd like to assume he was going to, but who knows?

They will. As soon as I call them. And schedule a time that I will be there. I don't want to take any more time away from work. It's really cutting into my evenings.

It's okay. It's not getting me down so much as it's keeping me down - wait, um... it's okay, really. This stuff was just annoying. I got it done.

Wow. I have no clue how people know how to do all these things. Electricity is what comes out of the wall. Plumbing brings water to other places. We have now reached the extent of my knowledge.

You learn as you go. At least you hope to.

I'm pretty good at judging what I can't do. I push the limits of what I can do, and then learn a little bit more. And watching friends who know how to do this stuff helps a lot, too. ;-)

Cyn once pointed me to a rant alleging that your lavatory cisterns are better than ours. The crux of the matter is that US loos flush by releasing a valve but UK ones flush by siphoning. Our flushing mechanism can't leak. Yours may be easier to flush.
