The archetypical neophile/neophobe choice.

[identity profile] seamusd.livejournal.com 2004-03-02 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
This is only Freekee's idea of a political post.

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2004-03-03 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Should I post it in your community?

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2004-03-04 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
Nevermind. It doesn't really matter.

[identity profile] seamusd.livejournal.com 2004-03-04 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't you mean, "Because"?

or is it, "Why not?"?

;>
I was only joking, dude!
THis Internet thing is a bad way to communicate... All traces of subtlity and irony get erased.

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2004-03-04 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, so was I. Sort of. I mean, that was the point. My answer was not "because" or "why not." Okay, not much of a joke, but I was hoping my "smartass" icon would be a clue that I was not to be taken seriously.

I should have put an emoticon on. :-)

[identity profile] seamusd.livejournal.com 2004-03-04 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn! See! I shoulda knowed.

[identity profile] davidkevin.livejournal.com 2004-03-10 02:45 am (UTC)(link)

My reply was more anthropological than political. See the famous political / anthropological / sociological / religious / mystery / science fiction / occult / historical (heretical to all of the above) novel Illuminatus! by the late Robert Shea and the still living Robert Anton Wilson for more information.

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2004-03-03 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's more of an archetypal child's vs. parent's choice.

[identity profile] serendipity.livejournal.com 2004-03-02 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither of the above/Other:

I don't know, why do *you* think?

[identity profile] serendipity.livejournal.com 2004-03-03 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't everything matter?

[identity profile] serendipity.livejournal.com 2004-03-04 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, why do you think it would?

[identity profile] serendipity.livejournal.com 2004-03-04 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I was actually making the discussion (if you can call it that!) come around full circle to the beginning, but realize my last question should've been:

I don't know, why do you think it wouldn't?

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2004-03-04 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to say that, but I couldn't get it to work right, so I chose the opposite path. ;-)

[identity profile] msfledermaus.livejournal.com 2004-03-03 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Heh....whys and wherefores are always worthy time wasters:)

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2004-03-03 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
And "why nots," even moreso.

[identity profile] msfledermaus.livejournal.com 2004-03-04 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Why!! why why Why!

[identity profile] ravengirl.livejournal.com 2004-03-03 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
i've never understood "because"
except in that beatles song
::hears it now::
because the world is round
it turns me oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-on
;)

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2004-03-03 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It is because it is.

Which doesn't sound too different than "why not?", does it?

[identity profile] ravengirl.livejournal.com 2004-03-03 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
it does to me~
i mean, "why" and "why not"
are the same thing-
they question.
but "because" sounds like
it's trying to answer
unanswerable questions.

to me, anyway.

[identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com 2004-03-03 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
But they both sound like you're trying not to answer the question.

Because? No reason. Just "because."

Why not? No reason. Just... no reason.

[identity profile] ravengirl.livejournal.com 2004-03-04 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
i saw it differently-
i am asking myself the questions
therefore, "why" AND "why not"
WILL be answered
but the answer is not "because"-
that's not a reason~

i see what you're saying-
but i always have reasons
and sometimes lists, like pros and cons-
yeah, i'm messed up ;P
ah well!
