grandma

My grandma died at 4:00 this morning.

She went into the hospital over a week ago, and then into a nursing home. I guess she had had strokes. This last time in the hospital, she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. She had been unhappy for a while now. She was having so much trouble getting around, and was scared that she was losing her sight. I think she's been ready to go.

The funeral will be on Thursday.

Of my cousins, one just had a baby so she won't be able to travel to the funeral. It's the birthday of another today, and he's got to work a fourteen hour shift. It sucks having to work at menial tasks with something like that on your mind. My aunt didn't tell the third cousin because his wife is out of town and she didn't want him to break down with no support.

My dad started calling relatives at 6:30 this morning. Most of them were out already.

Oh, Kevin, I'm so sorry. :`(

Your grandmother sounded like a wonderful woman. You're really lucky to have had her in your life for so long!

I'm glad she didn't have to suffer too much with a lengthy, debilitating illness and that she seemed ready to go. Sometimes that's the best for the individual *and* her/his family. Still, now you're left with a hole in your heart where she was. I hope that fond memories of her will help sustain you in your loss.

Love,
R

My deepest sympathy. I'm so sorry you had to lose her. She sounds like a wonderful person who took time to stop and smell the roses.

She was my only grandmother, really, since my mom's parents died when she was young.

My grandparents lived quite a distance away, so I only got to see them a couple of times a year. Sometimes I would stay with them for a week or two in the summers. those are my fondest memories of them.
