damn pop-ups

Someone was coming, so I quickly shrunk my browser and turned around. After they left, I discovered the pop-up had been on my screen the whole time.

Doh' was it a really bad one ? I always get the pop ups when I'm searching for something for mum and she is right behind me...like 'See girls live for free' and as fast as I get rid of them I get more and more, and the little X don't make them go away, just makes them bigger..Grrrrr

See, this is another good reason to use Linux...multiple desktops. Or you should switch to Ctrl-Tab.

Not that I view non-work content at work...it's just what I've *heard*...

If it's ok for you to download things at work, then maybe you can download a pop-up stopper like the one Dave uses.

You need to
  1. get a pop-up stopper for IE, or even better
  2. get Opera or Mozilla, both of which will ignore pop-ups

http://www.panicware.com/

Get their Pop-up Stopper.  It:

• contains no spyware
• uses very few system resources
• is a free download
• prevents malicious html and javascript from popping up windows once a native browser window is already open
• allows you to open new windows with CTRL+N or SHIFT+left click on a hyperlink

I haven't had popup problems in a long time.

D'oh. I've done the same thing. You could always set up the "show desktop" option which minimizes all your windows with one click.

Oops

[identity profile] vlinker.livejournal.com 2003-01-31 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
there ought to be a law against pop-ups.........

How many of us will suggest the same thing? ;~)

Another possiblity is to use the Windows key (the one with the flag-like logo), if you have one. Windows+M minimises everything, or Windows+D shows you desktop, which is only rather subtly different. The down side is that it now looks as if you're not doing anything on the computer at all...
