I need a web site

I was just going to sign up for a Homestead account, but they just went up to $50 a year. I pretty much only want it for image hosting, but eventually, I'd like to put up a personal page.

The reason I'd like to pay for one is so I don't have all kinds of restrictions like no remote hosting, and other crap they just spring on you. Homestead just started charging $25 in October, and I thought that was okay, but they just went up. Fifty dollars is more than a magazine subscription. And aside from the remote hosting for LiveJournal purposes, I wouldn't get as much use out of it.

So does anyone have any recommendations?

Try a tripod site. I utilize one for all my pics, and they don't cost anything.

Cyn says she linked to a picture that she had stored on her Tripod site, and they deleted her whole site. She was extremely angry.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I've never had a problem with them.

Good luck :)

Maybe they've softened their restrictions since then. Can you post pics in LJ that you have stored in Tripod?

I've had the website there for almost 2 years. Yup, I use the site in LJ exclusively.

Get Warped!!! (http://www.warped.com)

This company is awesome. Check 'em out. This is the place that I use and a lot of my friends as well. 5 bux a month is pretty cheap! Good luck on your search.

They seem okay. But that's $10 more than Homestead. I don't know. We'll see.

Now you know why I bagged homestead for emanations.

Cyn paid the $25 and that wasn't too bad, but it just doubled, and now she is not happy. But at least she users hers a lot.

I thought all ISP's offered at least some web space to their users. Our new ISP only offered one web space of 10 MB. I have some friends that use Lycos, but you do get a lot of pop up ads with them. Let us know what happens.

MSN only offers that "Communities" crap. I wish I had done more research when I signed up with them, but offering $400 off your computer when you're standing there in the store (and you're figuring that there probably isn't too much difference between ISPs) is awfully tempting. Aside from that lack of webspace, I've been happy with them.

Do you use Lycos? Can you remote-host images with them?

Forgot to mention, Wolfman says webmonkey is a good one too.

There was one place... dencity.com ... they used to be all right I think. Don't know if they're still around or not.

They are still around, I guess. But they apparently don't want users too badly, because their entire sales pitch consists of:

"Welcome to the all new Dencity.com! We have upgraded our services and now offer streamlined uploading, a brand new Filemanager and FTP server and no-nonsense web hosting.

The Dencitry.com community includes personal home pages, community & small business sites, photo albums, fan clubs, artist portfolios and much more!"

Ooh. I can't wait to join. :-|
