in which I discover the lower class

So Mike takes us to a bar. A nice bar, where they have high class spirits and cocktails. But that bar closes. So we go to the dive bar. I ask what's your best whisky. Bartender says Maker's. So I say give me that, but he replies "No, I'm out. I've got Jack." Ugh. OK, give me Jack & 7up. And my friends all get Miller Lite.

One of those kinds of places.

So Mike is shooting bar dice with the crowd. I'm taking pictures with my phone. And pretty soon this girl, the only girl in the place, comes over. She's pissed off that I was taking pictures of her. I'm like, "well, I'm not going to post them on Facebook." She's still pissed. She's still unhappy that I was aiming my camera in her general direction. I'm like, "fine, I'm not going to take any more pictures." She finally gives up and goes back to where she was.

I have no idea what the issue was. The nearest I can gather is that she thought I was a creeper.

But while she's near me, complaining, this other guy gets up from his bar stool, and kinda moves our way. He's kinda creepy, like... serial killer creepy. Before that, and after, he was by himself. But he got up and was intent on what was going on. Like he was... ready to defend the lone chick? Like he knew her, sort of, as another regular? While this was going on, our friend John, noticed all this and moved in. Later, he said he was ready to deck the guy, if necessary.

This was an alien world.

Wow. I've never been to a place like that but then the concept of bar in Spain is so different. I'm glad no real ruckus happened.

I don't know if it still is but, the bar back home wouldn't allow pictures to be taken in the bar. Something about privacy to drink, and not have it preserved for future generations ;)

I was in a dive bar once with RTM and another couple. We were sitting at a table having drinks when a fight broke out between bikers and rednecks. It's the only bar fight I've ever seen, and it was a doozy. Just like in the movies, only real blood.

I will occasionally go to a dive bar. Never seen a fight, though. Fortunately.
