back from the hospital

I sat with Cyn all afternoon, and evening. My mom and sister came down for a while around 8:00. It was kindof a dull day. She just had to lie there all day. No tests. Just a few meds. It was shift change just after I got there, so at least we got to talk to the nurse while I was there. He said she could go home if she wanted, but he gave us that attitude where doctors know best - even though they weren't really going to be doing anything for her. He pretty much had me convinced it was important for her to stay, but after a minute, I found some holes in his story. The stress test was already scheduled for 7 AM, and you have to be there a couple of hours ahead of time, so she decided she might as well stay. It didn't occur to me to ask why she had to stay in ICU. Two of her neighbors got moved to regular rooms. After insurance, we're going to be paying for about 20% of this.

Well, I hope this resolves soon, and that they don't obfuscate things as doctors often do. Give them hell if need be.

I know I'm not the one paying the bill, but--it seems to me to be better to follow the cautious plan. I think she's right to follow their plan--and not have to feel guilty.

Best wishes to you and Cyn. Hope she gets to come home soon.

If you're concerned that they're keeping her without justifiable reason, I suggest that you talk to the Patient Advocate. Without knowing more about the situation it's hard to say whether they're being overly cautious or treating her appropriately. Either way, though, the most important thing is her health.

that sucks! i have another person on my list right now whose mother is in the hospital. of course, she'd had surgery so her situation is much more dire but when she stood up, all hell broke loose and now she's in an induced coma. but anyway, my point is, maybe it is better she stay there just until they figure things out. however, ICU does sound like overkill!
i'm glad she feels better. i can't imagine being cooped up in there all day. i hope things go well w/the stress test and most of all, i hope they figure out what was wrong. i also hope she finally got something to eat!!?!?

My thoughts are with you both. Huge hugs for you to pass on to Cyn.

grrr and gah. i know it's tough to call these things, but i agree with what you say above-- that by noon tomorrow, that's it. the test is done and, while they may schedule another test or two, those should be done by her regular doctor and she should go home to rest. she can't be getting much rest there! hospitals are the worst for that...unless you're in a coma, which could be quite nice *snort*

Hope everything works out okay.

While staying at the hospital probably wound up being the best idea THIS time, I have to say that doctors are NOT gods and they do not always know best.(if they did, perhaps there wouldn't have been a need for her to BE in the hospital!) Cyn would have been much more comfortable at home, surrounded by her things, and of course with you there. My brother, who used to spend a good share of his time in the hospital, used to sign himself out when he got impatient, and go home. Hospitals are terrible places to be sick, and worse places to have to wait until 'they' decide what 'they' are going to do.

Hope you got some rest. Please let us know, when you get a chance, how things are going.

I know you are worried about the bills but I'm worried about Cyn. Have they checked the arteries in her neck? When my mother kept being faint and actually passed out a couple of times they discovered that it was blockages in her neck.

It also might be better for Cyn's stress levels if you could have a bit of trust in the doctors? I know that the family doctor rather let her down but still... they know lots more than any of us.

Well, at least they're taking the issue seriously now.

Hugs to both of you. I hope that by the time you get this you will both be home, and that some diagnosis will have been reached.

I really, really don't trust doctors. None of them even got close to diagnosing what was wrong with me. So keep pushing and keep asking lots of questions.
