bluegrass

I just heard a bluegrass version of "Stayin' Alive." It was pretty cool until I realized what it was. Now I can't get the image of the Bee Gees out of my head.

**Edit**
It was The McGee brothers from a new compliation called Saturday Night Hayfever. It's all bluegrass versions of disco songs.

There's another version of Stayin' Alive done by a swing band, see http://www.martyandelayne.com/ - it's played in the movie 'Swingers.'

It sends most people screaming.

Maybe Rolf Harris' version of 'stairway to heaven' would act as an antidote...

Nothing wrong with liking the Bee Gees.....:-)...

I've heard that rendition on the radio. Was that the Del McCoury band? I heard the BeeGees on the radio while I was driving home last night.

But I don't.

I don't think it was. I've heard his version of "1952 Vincent," but that's about it.

I've got the Picking on the Grateful Dead record, but that's not much a stretch for bluegrass. I like bluegrass, and I like hearing songs done in completely different styles.

I'll have to check that out when I get a chance. Thanks!

John Peel's Fabriclive DJ compilation includes a track by an Australian band called the Kingswoods which is a rockabilly version of the Sex Pistols' 'pretty vacant' - called 'purty vacant'.

Not even the pre-disco stuff?

[identity profile] sunshyncat.livejournal.com 2003-10-03 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
OH NO! Now I'm going to be walking around work for the rest of the day singing it in a high squeaky voice. Thanks a lot!

...maybe I'll sing it in chicken language instead...baaak!

No. I probably don't dislike it much, though.

How about disco duck?

That sounds cool.

I've got the country/bluegrass version of Pink Floyd's The Wall, but Luther Wright and the Wrongs.

Just curious. I can only take it in small doses, but some of the stuff they did from the late '60's-early '70's is really lovely. Harmonies to die for...
