Anyone know of any big commemorations of the Wright brothers' flight? That was 1903, wasn't it?

Dec. 17, 1903 An internet site says the EEA in Oshkosh will do something on July 29 but the rest is pretty much centered around Ohio and North Carolina.

My maternal grandfather lived near Dayton,Ohio and was very interested in flight. My mother says he wrote to the Wright Bros.
Grandpa and Grandma both belonged to a small "plain people" sect in Ohio called River Brethren. They dressed somewhat like Mennonites or Amish and they didn't start using automobiles for a long time after they were in common use. Today church members may own a car but it has to be black with no trim.

So, Grandpa, the son of a Bishop in the River Brethren Church, with his long beard and plain clothes read everything on it he could find. Grandma followed the "If the Lord wanted us to fly he'd a given us wings" school of thought.

I hadn't been aware of it until the Rose Parade in Pasadena. It was the subject of I believe, three floats in the parade.

something about that logical--yeah. Grandma was afraid of electricity, too. They used kerosene lanterns to light their home but she was afraid the electricity would shoot out of the phone when she answered it so she talked a little sideways into the phone.
