low_delta: (boring)
I took Thursday and Friday off work. Yesterday I installed a kitchen faucet for my mom. Then I did some work in the yard, cleaning out under my pine trees. Today I finished that up. I was going to mow the lawn, but some friends called. I was hoping they weren't going to take my suggestion that I might be free on Friday as a binding agreement to get together. But just as I got done working on the trees and came inside, the phone rang. "So did you still want us to come over?" "Sure, that'd be great."

Did a little shopping this evening. Finished up my new character for Sunday. And there you have it.

Funny how the plans we make don't always turn out the way we think they should!

I only had three tasks for these two days. Mom's faucet, pine trees, mow lawn. Two out of three ain't bad, I'll tell myself. :-)

I agree with you. When I have a list I tend to get some of it done as I get way too distracted at times with other things.

A new character? What are you playing?

Shadowrun. Dystopian, near-future cyberpunk.

My character is a covert ops specialist. Kaycee is a dark-haired elf with facial piercings and wild eyes. She has a bad haircut and wears a lot of black.

Just like you, right?
;)

Our son in law is into all that stuff also.

Kaycee is a dark-haired elf, with facial piercings and wild eyes. She wears fairly generic clothing - a lot of black - and generally has a bad haircut.

Kaycee grew up in an upper middle class family. She had two parents and two brothers. Both parents had jobs in the corporate sector, working for Shiawase. Her mother worked in security, and her father worked in Finance. She grew up with a fair knowledge of the capabilities of the megacorps and the risks one took belonging to them.

As a teenager living on the corporate campus, she enjoyed getting into places she wasn't supposed to go. She eventually got caught enough times that her parents took a dim view of her exploits and she spent a lot of time confined to their apartment.

Once free of schooling, she escaped the megacorp, and didn't look back. She hasn't spoken with her family in years - she doesn't want the corp to find her. And anyway, she doesn't see eye-to-eye with her parents. They don't seem to understand her fear of the megacorporations, and she despises their complicity.

Due to her ties to Shiawase, she keeps a low profile. While she technically still has a corporate SIN, being born to the life, she has buried all the traces that she has access to. In the years since then, she's been hiding out in Redmond or other lowlife areas. She is quite paranoid in general (7-point flaw), especially with regard to government and corporate entities. This is the main reason she's in the Redmond Barrens.

She never keeps the same apartment, name or boyfriend for more than a few months. She changes her piercings almost daily, leaving a lot of holes and small scabs on her face. She takes different routes when she leaves or returns to her apartment - the street, the alley, the roof. She seldom takes her Yamaha Rapier out of her apartment, not only because it's hard on the stairs, but because it draws a lot of attention in this neighborhood. Besides, she would have to leave it unguarded when she does her exploring. She's into motorcycle racing, of all sorts, but due to her severe motion sickness, she could never compete. She has enough trouble making it around town on her bike.

Due to her time on the streets, she's gained a lot of experience getting into places she's not supposed to be. There are few areas that can hold secrets from her.

Her contacts are an ex-boyfriend who works for Wolverine security contractors, and a street doc she discovered in Redmond (she literally walked in on him in what she thought was an abandoned office building).

She sounds like she'd make a great central character for some sort of fiction, novel or short story. Have you ever thought about taking one of these characters to a new level? I bet it would be a hit in a fan-fiction forum. I saw a page for Shadowrun at fanfiction.net, just sayin...

Also, that game looks good. Next month I'm putting $80 into Guild Wars 2 but after that, I'm going to look into getting Shadowrun. Any tips?

Shadowrun is very rules-intensive. For example, an attack has a success roll, which is directly opposed by a defense (dodge) roll. Then you determine the damage code. Then the defender rolls a damage resistance test. Crazy.

But what I love about it is the rich game world. All the socio-political issues make things interesting. The Native American Nations, racism (humans versus elves versus orks), megacorporate rule, dragons, etc.
