Our local paper had a couple of interesting stories on the front page. One was about Charles Guiteau. I scooped them!

The other was about 20 year old Heidi Dalibor. She didn't return two library books. Like a lot of people, she ignored the notices she got in the mail. Then she ignored the municpal ticket she got in the mail, with its notice to either pay it or appear in court to contest it. Since she didn't show up in court, and didn't pay the ticket, she got arrested. Handcuffed. IMO, she deserved it. How hard is it to return the books and pay the fine? I do like her mug shot, though.

That girl is a snot. Why didn't she just go and buy her own books if she liked them that well? Basically she removed the ability of others to borrow the books. And now she intends to keep them because she paid a fine? Errr... she sure did not learn her lesson from this at all. The fine was for her being a thief, not for keeping the books. The cute picture hides her personality.

and i hate her statement:
“I said, what could they possibly do? They can’t arrest me for this… I was wrong,” Dalibor said.

What's her personality? Self centered or just dumb? Both, I imagine.

Agreed... but I would add arrogant too.

and she STILL isn't going to return the books??

They should arrest her again for being "criminally dumb"!

There are late fees, and there is a lost book fee. When you lose a book, or when you return it, the late fee stops accruing. If she paid the lost book fee, she's off the hook. If the $30 late fee does not include the lost book fee, she's probably going to be really angry when she learns her overdue fees are still adding up.

It seems from the article that she paid her fines and thinks that means the books are paid for. If so, that's just idiotic. How clueless can a person be?

kids these days...

I recently saw the documentary (I'm not sure if it was a '48 Hours' or what...I watch all that crap!) about the college girl there in Madison that faked her own abduction. It seems like college kids operate in their own little world of right and wrong! Maybe somebody from Borders or B&N will do the right thing and offer her a gift card if she'll kindly give the books back!

Yeah. Unfortunately, it's not just college kids. There are a whole lot of people who just don't quite get it.
