bridge houses

When we took the architecture cruise, the focus was on the buildings. I enjoyed the bridges too. I must have been the only one. Hey people, you're looking the wrong way!


All the bridges were similar, and operated the same way, but each bridge house was different.

And notice the bollards. Those were everywhere on the river. Aside from being in various states, they were all the same. Some were barely standing, some only had a few pilings left, some were lying on the water. But they were all wooden pilings wrapped with chain.


I was so intent on lining this shot up, the bridge house and the golden sign, that I never noticed the streetlight. Oh well.


I like the way they built the building around the little bridge house.

I've always wanted to see if I could stay on one when it goes up. Sounds like a Bruce Willis trick.

The one I'm talking about rise horizontally, so you could just stand there and go up and down.

I need to watch Blues Brothers again, and see what buildings I can pick out. I wonder if you can tell what drawbridge they jump over.
